Let’s face it… Humpty Dumpty just wasn’t that careful. Sitting on a wall without safety gear or support? Really?  Don’t be a Dumpty. Don’t think brain injury can’t happen to you. Here are a few statistics to let sink into that eggshell of yours…

The Center for Disease Control reported:

  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) occurs every 21 Seconds
  • 5.3 million Americans have TBI
  • 9,233 NM’s treated for TBI in the Emergency Room
  • 1, 745 New Mexicans sustain a TBI annually
  • 455 Persons die annually as a result of traumatic brain injury in NM
  • $150,000 Average cost of a TBI the first year in NM
  • $261,000,000 average cost to NM
  • $53.6 billion per year (2005) to Americans

Brain Injury is the leading cause of death and disability in children and young adults

Stroke and Heart Disease Statistics
The 2007 NM Department of Health report to CDC statistics for 2005:

  • 3,376 people died from Heart Disease
  • 625 people died from Stroke
